An AI journal that never trains on what you write
Journal Genie is an AI journal that never trains AI on your entries. You write privately; nothing is used for model training, sold, or shown ads against. Your AI only reads a journal entry when you explicitly opt that entry in — otherwise it stays a private space, exportable in one click and deletable on request.
Journal Genie is an AI journal that never trains on your entries and keeps your writing private by default until you explicitly opt an entry in.
Most general-purpose AI tools improve their models on what you type, and their privacy policies often permit using your conversations to personalize ads. For a journal — the most personal thing you might write — that is the wrong arrangement.
Journal Genie inverts it. Your journal is private by default. We do not train AI on your entries, we do not sell them, and we run no ads. If you want the AI to reason over an entry, you opt that entry in — deliberately, per entry. Nothing is ambient.
Journal Genie vs. a general-purpose AI chatbot
A general-purpose AI chatbot can be a fine writing companion. The difference is what happens to what you write, and whether the tool remembers you on your terms.
| Capability | Journal Genie | a general-purpose AI chatbot |
|---|---|---|
| Never trains AI on what you write | Yes. Contractual no-training; private by default | Varies by tool; many train or personalize ads by default |
| Private by default; AI reads an entry only on opt-in | Yes. Per-entry inclusion, never ambient | No. Typed content is generally processed by default |
| Durable personal context that compounds | Yes. Journals + surveys build a context layer | Session memory varies; often starts cold |
| One-click full export in plain markdown | Yes. Everything you wrote, any time | Export varies; rarely whole-account markdown |
Private by default means private by default
A new journal entry is yours alone. There is no “ambient AI reading your journal in the background” mode — we won’t build one. To bring an entry into your AI’s reasoning (Genie mode), you include it explicitly. The default is silence.
No training, no sale, no ads
We have not opted in to model-provider training on your content. Your entries are isolated per user with row-level security and encrypted in transit and at rest. We don’t sell data and we don’t run ads — you fund the product directly, so there is nothing to monetize behind your back.
When you do opt in, it compounds
Entries you include become durable context your AI can reason with — alongside your sources and surveys — so it actually knows you over time, not just within one session. And you can export or delete all of it whenever you like.
What this is not
- This is not therapy or a mental-health treatment tool. Journal Genie is a private writing and thinking space; if you are in crisis, please use a dedicated crisis line (we list several).
- A general-purpose chatbot may have a larger model or more features; Journal Genie’s edge is privacy, opt-in personal memory, and the right to leave with everything.
Questions, answered first.
Is there an AI journal that doesn’t train on my data?
Yes. Journal Genie never trains AI on your journal entries. Your writing is private by default; the AI only reads an entry when you explicitly opt it in. Nothing is sold and there are no ads.
Can the AI read my journal without me asking?
No. There is no ambient or background reading. Notebook mode is source-only; Genie mode reasons over journal entries only when you include them, per entry.
Can I delete my journal entries?
Yes. You can delete entries yourself, and full-account deletion completes within seven business days with proof. You can also export everything in plain markdown first.
